PROJECT OVERVIEW

San Francisco International Airport represents one of Peacock Floors' most significant ongoing partnerships. Over multiple phases, we've installed over 40,000 square feet of custom carpet tile across terminal areas, concourses, and gate areas — all while one of the nation's busiest airports continued normal operations around us.

The product specification came from Bentley Mills, one of the premier commercial carpet manufacturers in the industry. The custom design incorporated SFO's branding requirements while meeting the demanding performance specifications required for airport environments: heavy foot traffic, rolling luggage, cleaning equipment, and 24/7 use.

What makes airport flooring truly challenging isn't the product or the installation technique — it's the operational constraints. Every square foot of terminal flooring must be installed, cured, and ready for traffic before the first morning flights. There's no room for error, no possibility of extending timelines, and no second chances.

THE CHALLENGE: INSTALLING IN A LIVE AIRPORT

Airport flooring installation presents constraints that would stop most contractors. Security protocols require background checks and constant coordination with airport operations. Installation windows are measured in hours, not days — typically 11 PM to 4 AM, after the last flights depart and before the first morning arrivals.

Every installation area must be completely cleaned, protected, and ready for passenger traffic by 5 AM. There's no "we'll finish tomorrow" — the airport opens on schedule regardless of flooring progress. Materials must be staged, transported through security, installed, and cleaned up within a five-hour window.

The scale of the project created additional complexity. 40,000 square feet doesn't install in a single night. Phasing required careful coordination with airport operations to ensure that completed sections seamlessly integrated with areas still awaiting installation, while maintaining continuous passenger flow throughout the terminal.

Weather and seasonal traffic patterns added unpredictability. Holiday travel peaks, flight delays, and unexpected operational changes required constant flexibility. Our team had to be ready to adapt installation schedules on short notice while maintaining quality and timeline commitments.

OUR SOLUTION: PRECISION EXECUTION

The SFO project showcased everything that makes Peacock Floors different. Our lead installers, Erick and Kevin Canas, brought years of institutional experience to every shift. Their precision and efficiency — honed over decades of commercial installation — proved essential in the compressed nighttime windows.

Our local warehouse made the difference in logistics. Pre-staged materials meant no waiting for deliveries, no coordination with distant distributors, and no supply chain surprises. Every roll of carpet tile was inspected, organized, and ready before each installation phase began.

Communication with airport operations became a core competency. Daily coordination calls, flexible crew scheduling, and real-time adaptation to changing conditions kept the project on track. When unexpected operational requirements shifted our installation windows, we adjusted without missing deadlines.

Quality control in airport environments requires obsessive attention to detail. Every seam, every transition, every edge must be perfect — not just for appearance, but for safety. Our installers understood that passenger safety depends on flawless execution, and they delivered accordingly.
