Chanel Union Square
Luxury retail flooring where every detail matters. Designer-specified carpets across multiple boutique departments, installed during business hours without disrupting the Chanel experience.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Luxury retail flooring exists in a different world than standard commercial work. When Chanel's designers specify flooring for their Union Square flagship, they're not just selecting a functional surface — they're crafting an experience. Every texture, every color, every transition contributes to the brand environment that makes Chanel unmistakably Chanel.
This project required installing multiple carpet types across different boutique departments within the store. Each department — from handbags to ready-to-wear to fine jewelry — had its own flooring specification, selected by Chanel's global design team to complement the merchandise and reinforce the brand aesthetic.
What made this project particularly demanding was the requirement to work during business hours without disrupting the customer experience. Chanel couldn't close their Union Square flagship for flooring installation. Our team had to become invisible while performing precision work in one of the most exclusive retail environments in San Francisco.
THE CHALLENGE: INVISIBLE LUXURY INSTALLATION
Retail flooring installation typically happens during off-hours — overnight or during closures. Luxury retail adds another layer of complexity: the installation itself must meet the same standards of refinement that define the brand. Dust, noise, visible work areas, and installer presence must all be managed to protect the customer experience.
The multi-specification nature of the project created logistical challenges. Each boutique department had different flooring, requiring careful material management, precise transitions between products, and seamless integration with existing store fixtures. There was no room for improvisation — every detail was specified by Chanel's design team.
Working around customers and staff meant constant coordination. Installation areas had to be secured, protected, and presentable at all times. Work had to pause when customers approached. The pace of installation had to flex with store traffic patterns that changed throughout the day.
Quality expectations in luxury retail are absolute. A seam that might be acceptable in a commercial office would be unacceptable in Chanel's flagship. Every transition, every edge, every detail had to be flawless — the kind of precision that takes decades to develop.
OUR SOLUTION: PRECISION AND DISCRETION
Our approach to the Chanel project started with understanding that we weren't just installing flooring — we were protecting a brand experience. Every decision, from installer dress code to tool selection to work scheduling, was made with the customer experience in mind.
We developed work zones that could be secured and concealed quickly when needed. Installation progressed in carefully planned phases that minimized visible disruption. Our installers understood that in this environment, being unseen was as important as being skilled.
Material handling required special attention. Luxury flooring products demand careful storage and acclimation. Our warehouse allowed us to pre-stage materials in optimal conditions before transport to the store, ensuring every roll arrived ready for installation.
The transitions between different flooring specifications became opportunities to demonstrate craftsmanship. Where other installers might simply butt products together, we created transitions that honored the design intent while ensuring long-term durability. These details matter in environments where customers expect perfection.
