    Why Peacock for Senior Living

Senior living has changed. The best private-pay communities in California no longer try to look like hospitals. They look like boutique hotels, like resorts, like elevated residential. Flooring is one of the biggest visual moves in that transformation. The right carpet, the right luxury vinyl plank, the right walk-off system at the entrance: these choices move a community from clinical to inviting, from drab to desirable. They also move the needle on resident satisfaction, family tours, staff pride, and rate-per-occupancy.

We work closely with Bentley Mills, the only commercial carpet manufacturer based in California. Bentley's design language has shifted decisively toward hospitality. Collections like The Velvet Lounge and In Concert read more like five-star hotel lobbies than nursing homes. Their EliteFlex 6FT cushion product was engineered specifically for senior living: chemically welded seams that make the floor impermeable to spills, a PVC-free urethane cushion that softens every step, and a 6-foot roll width that installs faster with fewer seams. Because Bentley is California-made and we stock locally, projects can start within a week of approval. For operators who prefer other mills, we also install Mohawk, Shaw, Patcraft, and Interface.

Senior living projects need a flooring partner who understands more than just product. The schedule has to flex around resident move-ins, dining service, and life-safety inspections. Crews have to work quietly, often in single-unit phases, with residents living one wall away. The product specs have to pass CMS, state, and the local fire marshal while still hitting the aesthetic the interior designer is fighting for. We have installed flooring in San Francisco senior communities for over four decades. We know how to balance the design vision with the operator's reality, and how to install it without making the dining room go dark for a week.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What flooring is appropriate for skilled nursing and assisted-living resident rooms?

Residential-look LVT and sheet vinyl with low-glare matte finishes are the most common picks. They read like a residential floor, sit flush with thresholds, and clean easily without harsh sheen that can read as wet to residents with vision changes.

How do you address fall risk?

We specify slip-resistant products with appropriate DCOF values for the environment, eliminate height changes at door thresholds where possible, and avoid high-contrast strong patterns in walking lanes that can disorient residents with cognitive impairment.

Can you replace flooring without relocating residents?

Often yes, room by room. We move furniture, install, and reset the room the same day or overnight so the resident sleeps in the same room. For larger common areas we phase around meal and activity schedules.

Do you handle dining, activity, and corridor flooring as one scope?

Yes. We package resident-area, dining, activity, salon, and corridor flooring as one phased scope so the design and transitions read cleanly across the building.

    What about memory-care unit considerations?

Memory-care areas benefit from continuous flooring without strong color blocks that can be misread as steps or holes, plus matte finishes that reduce glare. We work with the design team on a palette that supports orientation rather than confuses it.
